Red Rose Pizzeria

Review

Full Review

We visited red rose pizzeria after some strenuous hiking and intense, memorable camping at Mount Greylock. Us weary travelers wanted to reacclimate to civilization by enjoying a delicious Hawaiian pizza. Red rose is located next to a casino and the basketball hall of fame. It’s interior is fitting as it looks like what we imagine a Las Vegas pizza place looks like. The restaurant is peculiarly large and features a window into the kitchen where the inner workings of the operation are revealed, a proper factory. The dining room features brass trim on as many surfaces as possible, a dozen or so chandeliers, and art which looks like how olive garden or macaroni grill would depict Italy. With the scene set, lets get into the pizza. We split a personal size pizza which is worth mentioning as from looking around we noticed there was a fair amount of variability in crust size and overall appearance with the larger pizzas. For example, their largest pizzas feature slices cut into squares which is a sign of poor judgement on behalf of management. But that’s besides the point. The pizza crust was thin, dense and very crispy. On top was a cheese that was pretty average, perhaps there was a little too much, but it remained reasonable. There was lots of pineapple and an even distribution of ham. The pineapple was very sweet, and canned, but worked very well with the salty ham. It truly achieved the sweet and salty which is so characteristic of Hawaiian pizza. This seems like a given, but from our experience this is unfortunately not achieved as often as one would hope. The flavor was pretty good overall, with the biggest weakness of the pizza stemming from the fact that it was a white pizza. It got very dry, something that we’ve personally never experienced even with other white pizzas. Perhaps this is what made us think that there may have been too much cheese, as it surely wouldn’t have been an issue if there was some tomato sauce. We left the restaurant satisfied, but not blown away by any means. To summarize in one sentence: “it wasn’t a great pizza, but it wasn’t a bad Hawaiian”.
